Five Products making waves with marine waste plastic

It’s not just our ecomb setting a precedent in the plastic repurposing industry…

We’re determined to contribute to extending the life of materials through our innovative ecomb design.

A brilliant part of working in this space is that we’re not alone in our mission to repurpose marine waste - so we thought we’d chat a bit about other brands making waves in our industry!

1 - Batoko

If you’re after a new layer to go underneath your wetsuit, Batoko might just be your first choice. They intercept plastic waste before it hits the ocean, and make super cool swimsuits. As Batoko themselves say: they’re rubbish!

2 - Waterhaul

This social enterprise, based in Cornwall, makes affordable, fashionable sunglasses from discarded fishing nets. We love that they also sell litter pickers, in which all the polypropylene (plastic) is made from plastic waste!

3 - Ecomb

You didn’t think we wouldn’t talk about our own product, did you?! Our surfboard wax comb is made from reclaimed ocean waste plastics which would have otherwise gone to landfill (or, worse still, left in the seas). Read more about Our Story here.

4 - Lidl

Perhaps not the first brand you might think of favourably when it comes to waste - bear with us! Lidl was the first supermarket (in February of this year) to announce they would be using ‘ocean-bound’ plastic in their packaging. We particularly like this, as much plastic discarded is from packaging, so it makes sense to start looking at the start of the chain.

5 - DuraOcean

LifestyleGarden®’s DuraOcean® chair is the ‘world’s first commercially available chair made with ocean debris’. You can buy a pack of two from innovative home product seller Robert Dyas.

Who have we forgotten about? Get in touch on social media to tell us about your other plastics heroes!
